Lars Ulrik Mortensen

Lars Ulrik Mortensen studied at The Royal Danish Academy of Music and with Trevor Pinnock in London. From 1988 to 1990 he was harpsichordist for the English ensemble London Baroque, and until 1993 he held the same position with Collegium Musicum Copenhagen. Since 1999 he has been artistic director of the ensemble Concerto Copenhagen.

Lars Ulrik Mortensen is widely acknowledged as an original artist with an unfailing sense of style. His recordings of Bach’s Goldberg Variations garnered the prestigious French Diapason d’Or prize, and his Buxtehude recordings for Dacapo garnered the Cannes Classical Award in 2001.

Lars Ulrik Mortensen has conducted several productions at The Royal Danish Opera, including Handel’s Giulio Cesare and Monteverdi’s Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria.

In 2007 Lars Ulrik Mortensen received the distinguished Danish Léonie Sonning Music Prize.
