Gert Henning-Jensen (tenor) trained at the Opera Academy in Copenhagen. He made his debut at the Royal Danish Theatre, Copenhagen, in 1992 as Count Almaviva in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia. He was engaged by the Royal Danish Theatre, Copenhagen, where he has sung many lyrical roles, for example in operas by Mozart, Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini, Richard Strauss and Beethoven; he has also taken on the lighter Wagner roles in Tannhäuser and Die Meistersinger. Abroad he has sung at the opera houses in Rome, Berlin and Trieste, appeared at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro and sung as a guest in Rome, Trieste, Liège, Brussels, Vienna, Zürich, Basle and Baden-Baden. In April 1998 he made his debut at the Metropolitan in New York as David in Wagner’s Die Meistersinger, a role he also sings at Covent Garden in London.
