Mezzo-soprano Tuva Semmingsen trained as a classical singer at the Norwegian State Academy of Music in Oslo and the Royal Danish Opera Academy in Copenhagen. She made her debut in 1999 at the Royal Danish Opera, Copenhagen, as Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro. She made a name for herself as a permanent member of the soloist ensemble there between 2000 and 2016, in operas including Giulio Cesare,Il barbiere di Siviglia, La Cenerentola and L’incoronazione di Poppea. These performances led her to opera stages in Venice, Vienna, Zurich, Lille, Nancy, Stockholm, Oslo and other cities. Her love of baroque music has led to collaborations with Concerto Copenhagen, Le Concert d’Astrée and Les Arts Florissants. Tuva Semmingsen recorded the soundtrack to Lars von Trier’s Antichrist and the CD London Calling! with music by Handel with the Norwegian ensemble Barokksolistene. She thrives between the genres, performing in both smaller and larger formats, among others with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and the DR Big Band. She has been on a musical journey with Esbjerg Ensemble for several years, with a varied repertoire ranging from the early baroque to contemporary music. Tuva Semmingsen is an associate professor in singing at the Grieg Academy in Bergen.
