Tim Frederiksen

Tim Frederiksen (viola) trained with Erling Bloch and Max Rostal. In 1980 he was engaged as solo violist in the Danish National Symphony Orchestra / DR, in 1983-1996 as concertmaster. He has been primarius in the Danish Quartet, with whom he has travelled all over Europe, and a co-founder of Trio Soleil with Elisabeth Westenholz and Niels Thomsen. Since 1996 he has been engaged as professor of viola and chamber music at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. As a soloist Tim Frederiksen has appeared with most of the Danish orchestras, performing among other works Bartók’s Viola Concerto and Per Nørgård’s Remembering Child. He gave Yngve Jan Trede’s Viola Concerto, which is dedicated to him, its first performance, and has played Poul Ruders’ Viola Concerto with the Copenhagen Philharmonic.
