Tones of light and air
Niels Rosing-Schow unites refined original music and elegant Debussy arrangement on a new album featuring Bjarke Mogensen, Toke Møldrup and the Danish Chamber Players.
Niels Rosing-Schow crafts chamber music of sensual, organic allure, rich with contrast and sonic elegance. Now we're releasing a new album with his exquisite take on Debussy’s Six épigraphes antiques and chamber works with accordionist Bjarke Mogensen and cellist Toke Møldrup at the centre.
Signs in the Air will be released on CD and streaming on 20 June. Pre-save the album to your streaming library here and listen to a single below here while you continue reading.
Sonic refinement
Niels Rosing-Schow has a special ability to create music which communicates directly and creates immediate meaning for the listener. This album presents five works, spanning from the vibrant to the soulful, all of which exemplify Rosing-Schow's sonic refinement.
The airy and vibrant Dance and Signs in the Air was commissioned for the Danish Chamber Players' 25th anniversary. Inspired by impressions from Shanghai, Rosing-Schow creates a subtle reference to Chinese music with the help of quarter-tones which break the classical’ atmosphere.
Granito y arco iris is a chamber concerto for accordion, recorded with Bjarke Mogensen, and draws its inspiration from the conceptual pairing of granite and rainbow: two contrasting natural phenomena which unlock a wealth of associations and contain the contrast between the solid, enduring grainte and the fleeting light of the rainbow.
Exquisite Debussy arrangement
The album is rounded off with an exquisite arrangement of Claude Debussys Six Épigraphes antiques, originally written for piano four hands. Its structure, mood and content are poetic, marked by the elegance and sensuality that is characteristic of both Debussy and Rosing-Schow. The first movement from Six Épigraphes antiques is out now as a single.
