Oramo and the Vienna Philharmonic win the P2 Award for 'Recording of the Year'
Musikkens Hus in Aalborg on Thursday evening formed the framework for the DR P2 Music Prize 2019, where the last year's classical top performances were celebrated. Dacapo's release of Rued Langgaard's Symphony No. 2 and 6 with Vienna Philharmonic and Sakari Oramo was awarded the 'Recording of the Year'. Michala Petri was named this year's 'P2 Artist 2019'.
Thursday night was a real festive evening for Danish classical music, as the large-scale P2 Price concert ran out of stacks. 'Recording of the Year' was awarded to the Vienna Philharmonic's rendition of Rued Langgaard's Symphony No. 2 and 6 together with soprano Anu Komsi and Sakari Oramo as the conductor.
"The recording presents this long-overlooked Danish music at the highest international level – even with rare sound-like beauty and a grandiose romantic playing style, which releases Langgaard's music in a way that has never been heard before," said the motivation.
Love for Langgaard
A release that has been praised in the Danish newspapers:
"It is simply nice to feel the Vienna Philharmonic's give Langgaard love" - Politiken
"And the Vienna Philharmonic has embraced Rued Langgaard and Sakari Oramo, who is the head of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Stockholm Philharmonic, has here been a competent and spirit-related bridge builder between Danish and Austrian music scene. " - Information
One of a kind
It is the P2 Prize jury and P2's playlist committee that has been behind the selection, and already in August last year they decided to name Michala Petri (recorder) this year's "P2 Artist 2019". It comes on top of a year in which she has both been celebrating her 50th anniversary as an artist and her 60th birthday.
