The Danish Horn Trio

ensemble
Agnete Schlichtkrull

The Danish Horn Trio has played a wealth of concerts since the three musicians found one another in 1997. It is an unusual combination of instruments – violin, French horn and piano – that sounds quite fantastic and excellently unites tones from three widely different worlds of sound. The most famous piece for such an ensemble was composed by Johannes Brahms, and this work has later inspired many composers such as Geörgy Ligeti, Hans Abrahamsen and Poul Ruders to write for the same grouping: works which the Danish Horn Trio of course has in its repertoire. The Danish Horn Trio is usually asked to play the two famous trios by Ligeti and Brahms, but one of the goals of the ensemble is to open more people’s ears to this special sound-universe, and this has generated several commissions over the years. A critically highly acclaimed CD which appeared in 2001 on the English Chandos label featured both Brahms’ and Ligeti’s horn trios. recording was chosen as CD of the Month in BBC Music Magazine in the period just after its release. The Trio are frequent guests at Danish and international music festivals.recording was chosen as CD of the Month in BBC Music Magazine in the period just after its release.
