soprano
1981

Soprano Dénise Beck graduated from the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Wien in 2009 under the tutelage of professors Franz Lukasovsky, Sir Charles Spencer and Istvan Bonyhadi, and later from the soloist class at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in 2011.

Her debut took place at the Volksoper Wien in 2009 as Komtesse Anastasia in Kálmán’s Die Csárdásfürstin. In 2014, she made her debut at the Royal Danish Theatre as Amanda in the revival of Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre . Since then, she has embraced a diverse range of roles, from Sidi in Kuhlau’s rediscovered Lulu to Adele in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus and Pamina in Mozart’s The Magic Flute. She has also graced the stage as Leonora in Nielsen’s Maskarade and Valencienne in Lehár’s The Merry Widow. At Den Jyske Opera, she has been seen as Adina in Donizetti’s L'elisir d'amore and as Anna in Kasper Holten’s staging of Daníel Bjarnason’s Brothers.

Under the baton of Michael Schønwandt, she has recorded the leading role of Suzon in Poul Schierbeck’s opera Fête galante for Dacapo Records, alongside Bo Skovhus, Morten Frank Larsen and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. Her recent engagements include Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hansel und Gretel at the Oslo Opera, Elverskud by Niels W. Gade with Michael Schønwandt and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and Nielsen’s Symphony No. 3 with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

In 2021, the recording of Hornemann’s Aladdin was released on Dacapo Records, where she sings the role of Gulnare, once again with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Michael Schønwandt. In 2023, she returned to the Oslo Opera, this time in a ballet performance, singing the soprano part from Górecki’s Symphony No. 3, Symphony of Sorrowful Songs .

Dénise Beck is a versatile artist who, despite having Mozart as her signature composer, does not limit herself to one genre within her profession. She has sung a great deal of contemporary music, participated in experimental shows and performances. As a performer and voice artist, she has appeared with the Zafraan Ensemble in Berlin and with the Christoph Winkler Dance Company.

Dénise Beck has received numerous awards, including the Inga Nielsen Prize, P2’s Talent Prize and the Sonning Talent Prize. In 2021, she was appointed Knight of the Order of Dannebrog.
