Christian Westergaard

The pianist Christian Westergaard trained at the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music, with Amalie Malling and Niklas Sivelöv, and made his name as accompanist to a number of the leading Nordic singers. As well as giving many concerts in Denmark, he has played around Europe, including recitals at the Wigmore Hall in London and the Hamburg Musikhalle. Christian Westergaard is founder and artistic director of Liedkompagniet, which has renewed the focus on the art of Danish song, with music by composers including Peter Heise and Herman D. Koppel. Christian Westergaard is assistant professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, and has received both the Van Hauen Grant and the Sonning Talent Prize.
