Dybfølt is a flexible musical entity, founded as a duo by bassist Mathæus Bech and cellist Kirstine Elise Pedersen, working with immersion – a journey into depth, seeking tranquillity, care and intimacy in music. The ensemble’s sound world unites classical finesse, the vitality of Nordic folk music and experimental soundscapes in a distinctive expression.

Its repertoire is marked by originality, drawing inspiration from both classical traditions and Nordic folk music. A particular fascination with the Danish composer Rued Langgaard has shaped the ensemble’s profile, while arrangements of his works have opened up new sonic horizons. At the same time, Dybfølt has worked with great care on the music of pioneer Else Marie Pade, whose works link post-war experimentation with a powerful personal voice.

In March 2024, Dybfølt released the album Sange fra en væg (Songs from a Wall) on Dacapo Records together with singer Kira Martini, exploring Pade’s wartime songs written during her internment in the Frøslev Prison Camp – on the surface simple and innocent, yet carrying strong undercurrents of resilience and hope.

Later that year came the album Syv cirkler (Circles of Sevenths) (Dacapo Records, November 2024), in which Dybfølt reimagined Pade’s monumental electronic work from 1958 in a new, acoustically based staging, where the duo’s distinctive combination of instruments highlights both the spiritual dimension of the work and its timeless relevance.
