This recording contains insightful interpretations of Holmboe's powerful, robust choral music, which is characterized by very simple but strong musical structures. Holmboe was inspired by European folk music, which can be heard in the piece A Lyke-Wake Dirge, a folkloric wake ballade. The album also contains the often sung collection Sange mod Vårdybet (Songs to the spring abyss), written to poems by the Faroese author William Heinesen. In the songs one can hear a wide range of different expressions, inspired by the unpredictable nature: frosty landscapes, the soft green grass and a windy night at sea where nature flexes its muscles.
