The ecstatic evening

For Bent Sørensen and his wife, the pianist Katrine Gislinge, the time of the pandemic was paradoxically a time of freedom. After day of work, Sørensen would cycle home, where Gislinge would often give a miniature recital of whatever she was workin on. At a time when all other social life had been put on hold, these evenings with piano music took on an ecstatic quality. Fragments of what Sørensen heard as darkness fell have now found their way into the Piano Concerto La sera estatica - the ecstatic evening.

In the concerto, Bent Sørensen unfolds his love of the piano on a large scale. The work begins in medias res and with great force we are hurled into a dramatic world. True harmony only emerges at the end of the work when the fleeting ecstasy is over and you ask yourself: Was it a dream? "The music of the night is quiet and intimate, wild and fierce", Politiken's reviewer wrote about the premiere in 2021. "One must hear it because words are simply not precise enough to describe the music.”

Intimate piano textures

The 12 Nocturnes is a collection of short pieces following the course of the night from sunset to sunrise. It is wonderfully atmospheric music which reach us like starlight in the night sky. With hushed delicate tectures, the collection presenta the classic nocturne re-enchanted on 21st-century terms.

12 Nocturnes has prevously been released in a live recording on a digital only album. We're happy to now present a new studio recording of the collection for this album and on selected streaming platforms, the recording is also available in Dolby Atmos.
