The Central Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra

ensemble
The Central Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra has functioned as a professional chamber orchestra since 1989, but its homogeneous sound and dynamic impact is the result of a long-standing collaboration. Juha Kangas founded the orchestra in 1972 and still works as its artistic director. The orchestra’s repertoire spans all the musical epochs from the Baroque to the present. The Central Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra has so far played almost a hundred first performances, most of which have been commissioned works. Many internationally famous soloists appear with the orchestra, and besides its concert work it has made over forty gramophone recordings. The orchestra regularly plays concerts abroad, in recent years for example in the Baltic countries, Japan, England, Holland, France, Luxembourg, Poland, Germany, Austria, Scandinavia and New York; in the spring of 2007 the orchestra gave a guest performance at the Berlin Konzerthaus. The Central Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra was awarded the Nordic Council’s Music Prize in 1993. Sakari Oramo functions as the Orchestra’s guest conductor.
