Poul Elming
tenor
Poul Elming trained at the academies of music in Aalborg and Aarhus, and made his debut from the soloist class in 1978. In 1979-84 he sang a large number of baritone roles at the Danish National Opera (Århus), including Papageno in The Magic Flute, King Erik in King and Marshal, Count Luna in Il Trovatore and Einstein in Die Fledermaus. In 1984 he was engaged by the Royal Danish Opera, and sang the Count in The Marriage of Figaro, Malatesta in Don Pasquale and several other roles. After re-pitching his voice as a tenor, Poul Elming made a new debut in 1989 in the title role of Wagner’s Parsifal at the Royal Danish Opera, and the very next year he was engaged by the famous Wagner-Festspiele in Bayreuth as Siegmund in Die Walküre with Daniel Barenboim conducting. This was the cue for an international career which has taken him to all the leading opera houses in Europe and several in the USA, and recently to Japan. He has also returned to Bayreuth every summer.
