Inga Nielsen

Inga Nielsen (1946-2008) has studied in Vienna, Stuttgart and Budapest. She began her career at opera houses in Germany and Switzerland and was later engaged by the Opera in Frankfurt. Inga Nielsen has guested at the State Opera in Vienna, La Scala, Covent Garden and the opera houses in Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Paris, Zurich, New York and Buenos Aires. She has also sung at the festivals in Bayreuth, Salzburg, Vienna, Munich, Aix-en-Provence, Edinburgh and New York. Some milestones in Inga Nielsens career were the new production of The Abduction from the Seraglio where she had the major role of Konstanze at the Salzburg Festival in 1989-89 and at Covent Garden, conducted by Sir Georg Solti. Besides her opera engagements Inga Nielsen often appeared as a soloist. She has for example appeared in many radio and television productions and numerous recordings, including a solo record with the conductor Antonio Pappano, two Mozart recordings, with Sir Neville Marriner and Peter Schreier, and a Haydn recording with Nicholas Harnoncourt. Inga Nielsen appeared with Placido Domingo in Copenhagen and in Zurich she made her debut as Agathe in a new production of Der Freischütz. In 1994 she enjoyed a formidable success as Salome in Leipzig, and the same year she sang the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier at the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen. In the spring of 1995 she toured with Giuseppe Sinopoli in the East. Inga Nielsen died in 2008, 61 years of age.
