Hilda Sehested was one of the few women in Danish Romantic music. She came from a prosperous family, and as a young woman studied the piano in Paris and with C.F.E. Horneman in Copenhagen. At the age of 30 she began to composed, and her works were very positively received insofar as they were actually played. She held administrative posts in the musical life of Copenhagen, but several of her often original works were never performed.
