Michael Riessler

Michael Riessler has been active as a musician and composer in jazz, improvisation and chamber music since the 1980s. A virtuoso bass clarinettist with a rich tone and wide-ranging technique, Riessler has also composed music for theatre, ballet and cinema, including the acclaimed feature film Die andere Heimat (2013). He has collaborated with leading figures such as John Cage, Steve Reich, Mauricio Kagel and Carla Bley. In 2011, Riessler created Aglaope in duo with Palle Mikkelborg at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art; the following year he returned with Woodwinds, performed in trio with Mikkelborg and accordionist Jean-Louis Matinier.
