Håkon Hardenberger

trumpet
Born in Sweden in 1961, Håkan Hardenberger started his studies with the renowned Swedish trumpeter Bo Nilsson. He later studied the trumpet with Pierre Thibaud at the Paris Conservatoire and with Thomas Stevens in Los Angeles, and won prizes at the prestigious international competitions in Toulon and Geneva. Håkan Hardenberger's playing has prompted leading contemporary composers including Harrison Birtwistle, György Ligeti, Jan Sandström and Hans Werner Henze to write major new works for him. His virtuosity and talent for musical communication have greatly increased public interest in the trumpet as a solo instrument, and he is in demand all over the world as a soloist not only in Haydn and Hummel but also in Maxwell Davies and Birtwistle.
