Christoph Strehl

Christoph Strehl was born in Lübeck, and started his singing career as a boy soprano in the city’s famous boys’ choir, the Lübecker Sing- und Spielkreis. Later he trained as a singer in Essen with among others Norman Shetler. Christoph Strehl is now engaged by the Opera in Zürich and is a much sought-after Mozart tenor. He has worked with the conductors Claudio Abbado and Franz Welser-Möst and with pioneers of historic performance practice such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, William Christie and Marc Minkowski. Christoph Strehl has appeared at the Salzburg Festival and is about to make his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. He will also be working with the conductors John Eliot Gardiner and Daniel Harding. On DVD he can be seen in operas as different as Rameau’s Les Indes Galantes and Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.
