Rued Langgaard is a peculiar, lonely figure in Danish history of music, but at the same time one of the greatest musical geniuses Denmark has ever known. His music encompasses the whole range from the romantic to modernist styles, and is by turns monumental, expressive, and visionary. The song on this disc were written in Langgaard's youth. They are close to the German Lied tradition and demonstrate the composer's acute sense of style and sound.
