Uniquely conscious of tradition, Svend Hvidtfelt Nielsen (b. 1958) is a composer fully capable of writing insistent, rhythmically marked music. This new CD centres on a tiny, striking dance motif that is taken on unpredictable detours off the beaten track – sometimes even to a breakdown. Hvidtfelt Nielsen has been a composer-in-residence with Randers Chamber Orchestra, whose conductor, David Riddell, leads the way here through devil-may-care dance, momentary idyll and dangerous diversions.
