Rafaell Altino plays works for solo viola in Odense

This Friday violist Rafaell Altino's new album featuring six new works, written by six leading Danish composers: Poul Ruders, Anders Koppel, Niels Rosing-Schow, Karsten Fundal, Søren Nils Eichberg and Bent Sørensen, will be released. On the samt night he will perform the music at a free concert on ODEON.

The viola occupies a special place in the psyche of musicians and composers. It is an instrument of mystery, soulfulness and even of protest and revolt.

On his new album Rafaell Altino, principal viola of the Odense Symphony Orchestra, presents an exploration of his instrument’s power and possibilities as realised by six leading Danish composers. Some explore the viola as a tool for sound production while others relish what its distinctive also singing voice does to melodies. The results are as touching and warm as they are fearsome and defiant.

The album will be released on Friday 8 February, and that evening, the music can be heard live when Rafaell Altino plays concert in the Conservatory's Concert Hall in ODEON in Odense. The concert starts at 19.00 and there is free admission.

After the concert, Dacapo and Edition Wilhelm Hansen invite for a reception and celebration of the new release, which will be available at a special price for the night.
