The Christmas Concerts given by DR Pigekoret (Danish National Girls' Choir) at DR Koncerthuset are not only a great hit with audiences, with long waiting lists year after year. On radio and TV they are also highlights for hundreds of thousands of Danes who gather together to experience the choir in action on prime time during Christmastide.

Christmas album on the Hit List

At the end of November, DR Pigekoret with its head conductor Phillip Faber released the Christmas album As Silent as Snow, which is an anthology of concert highlights and studio recordings from Christmas concerts over the past few years – along with a number of Nordic guest artists.

And it has also proved to be a popular success! For the new album has streaked straight into 11th position on the official Danish Album Top-40 at Hitlisten.NU.

Album Top-40 is the list of the best-selling albums and EPs in connection with the sale of CDs, downloads and streaming. The Danish branch of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) is responsible for the official hit lists at the Hitlisten.NU site.

Music written specially for DR Pigekoret

All the music on the new release has been arranged or composed specially for the choir. Its chief conductor, Phillip Faber, is personally responsible for the very first sounds to be heard, with the choral work O Magnum Mysterium, and he has also written several of the arrangements of well-known Christmas songs, including Christmas has angelic sound and My heart is always roaming.

Most of the songs on the release, however, have been arranged by the folk-musician and composer Nikolaj Busk, who also features on many of the tracks.  There are also two arrangements included on the new album by earlier chief conductors of the choir, Michael Bojesen and Tage Mortensen, as a special greeting to DR Pigekoret’s past.
