Bent Sørensen to be celebrated at the P2 Prize concert
The P2 Artist of the Year, the composer Bent Sørensen, is to be celebrated at the prize concert on 30 April, which can be heard live on radio.
At the beginning of the year, it was made public that the main award at this year’s P2 Prize – the title of P2 Artist 2021 – goes to the composer Bent Sørensen. The prize-giving ceremony will be celebrated at a concert in Odense Concert Hall on Friday, 30 April. It will be broadcast live on Danish Radio P2, where one can listen from 19.20 to 22.30.
At the prize concert one will, among other works, be able to hear Bent Sørensen’s Trumpet Concerto, with Tine Thing Helseth as the soloist. The trumpet concerto was issued by Dacapo on the album Concertos, which also features Sørensen’s second piano concerto La Mattina with Leif Ove Andsnes as soloist, and the clarinet concerto Serenidad, with Martin Fröst as soloist.
The album Concertos was well received by reviewers and was awarded the P2 Prize 2021 in the category ‘Album of the Year, New Classical’. Furthermore, Concertos has been selected by Politiken as one of the year’s 20 best classical albums, and also been singled out by Information as one of the year’s classical listening experiences in 2020.
Apart from the performance of the trumpet concerto, the prize concert will include a first Danish performance of Bent Sørensen’s Enchantress. Five intermezzi for orchestra.
New release on its way
In June, one can also look forward to a new release with music by Bent Sørensen – the album 12 Nocturnes, recorded by the pianist Katrine Gislinge. The release presents a collection of short piano pieces which, with great expressiveness, create evocative pictures of the starry night sky. 12 Nocturnes will be released as a digital album from Dacapo Records.
