After engagements in Oslo, Bremen and at the Danish National Opera in Aarhus, Aage Haugland was engaged in 1973 by the Royal Theatre, Copenhagen, where he has sung innumerable major roles. He made his debut at Covent Garden as Hunding in The Valkyrie in 1975 and the same year at the English National Opera as Hagen in Götterdämmerung. Since then he has often sung at Covent Garden in London, and indeed at the world’s leading opera houses everywhere, for example in Geneva and at the Aix-En-Provence Festival, at the Paris Opera, the Deutsche Oper, Berlin, in Dresden, Munich, Hamburg, at the Salzburg Festival, at Bayreuth and in many other places. He has also sung all over the USA. He made his debut as Baron Ochs at the Metropolitan and since then has had a very close association with the house, where he has also sung roles like Hunding, Boris Godunov, King Heinrich, King Mark and Khovansky. He has an eminent concert career and has sung everywhere with the world’s leading orchestras and conductors, including Solti, Abbado, Previn, Masur, Rostropovich and Maazel, as well as recording a number of CDs. Aage Haugland was appointed a Royal Kammersanger in 1985.
