The classic wind quintet of the 1800s was ousted by the large forms of Romanticism, but saw a well deserved renaissance in the twentieth century. In Denmark it was not least Carl Nielsen's ground-breaking work that stimulated the renewed interest. On this CD Nielsen's quintet is featured alongside a number of fine works for the ensemble type. Otto Mortensen's and Jørgen Jersild's highly personal quintets both bear traces of the composers' time in France, while Henning Wellejus' entertaining work confirms the divertimento-like character of the genre.
