Palle Mikkelborg is a trumpeter, and conductor, and one of the finest representatives in this country of the fusion of jazz and modern classical composition music. For many years he was a member (and later leader) of the Danish Radio Jazz Group and the Danish Radio Jazz Orchestra. He is in great demand as a soloist in Denmark and abroad and has worked with great names of jazz such as Gil Evans, George Russell, Gary Peacock and Jan Garbarek. Palle Mikkelborg has co-founded several ensembles including the trio Heart to Heart with Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and Kenneth Knudsen. In 1984 he composed Aura as a tribute to one of his greatest inspirations: the trumpeter Miles Davis. For the Peace Sculpture of laser light along the west coast of Jutland on the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II Palle Mikkelborg composed the work Soundscape.
