Jules van Hessen

The conductor Jules van Hessen was born in The Hague, Holland, in 1969. He studied clarinet and conducting at the Conservatory in The Hague, and completed his studies in 1984 with a concert where he conducted the Hague Philharmonic. In Denmark Juels van Hessen is well known for his participation in the Malko Conductors' Competition in 1986, where he won an impressive Second Prize as well as the prize of the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since then he has regularly conducted most Danish orchestras. In 1991 he was a prizewinner in the Igor Stravinsky Competition in Graz, Austria, and he was one of the first western conductors to conduct the Central Philharmonic in Beijing and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.
