The DVD release of Bo Holten's opera gets top marks in the word's leading opera periodicals
Last year the Copenhagen Opera's premiere of Bo Holten's opera The Visit of the Royal Physician won high praise from reviewers in Denmark and from abroad.
With Dacapo Records' DVD release of Holten's opera, The Visit of the Royal Physician has also reached opera-lovers and reviewers all over the world who were unable to see the work live. And now two leading opera periodicals have awarded top marks to the Danish opera DVD.
English honours
In the September edition of the English magazine Opera, Holten's Royal Physician has been selected as DVD of the month. The reviewer singles out the composer's ability to make the complex historical plot clear and comprehensible, and the performances of the singers are called "admirable, without exception ". The picture and sound quality of the DVD, as well as the extensive bonus material, are also given high praise.

American suggestion
At the same time the American opera magazine Opera News has published a review of The Visit of the Royal Physician, which similarly praises the Danish opera DVD to the skies. The reviewer notes that the opera deserves a wider audience and that it would "make a welcome addition to the world's great opera houses". Since Opera News is published by the Metropolitan Foundation, which also runs New York's legendary ‘The Met', the latter suggestion is particularly worth noting.
