The Wind Quintet of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra/DR consists mainly of solo wind players from the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. The ensemble made its official debut on 28th March 1998 and since then has performed with great success all over the country. Besides playing Danish music and the traditional wind quintet repertoire, the ensemble has been very successful with transcriptions of works by among other composers Mozart and Beethoven. In addition to its chamber music concerts the wind quintet has taken the initiative for a number of concerts for children, for example at the Louisiana Museum of Contemporary Art in collaboration with the pianist Katrine Gislinge and the actor Tommy Kenter. The ensemble regularly records CDs. They have recorded Carl Nielsen’s and Jørgen Jersild’s wind quintets and Herman D. Koppel’s and Niels Viggo Bentzon’s sextets with the jazz pianist Nicolai Bentzon on piano. Abroad, the Wind Quintet of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra has embarked on a collaboration with the musical director of the English Chamber Orchestra, Ralf Gothoni. Gothoni is a Finnish pianist who is in great demand all over the word.
