Stephen Milling (bass) trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen and the Opera Academy. On graduation in 1994 he was engaged by the Royal Theatre. After several seasons at the Theatre and many leading roles such as King Mark in Tristan and Isolde, Daland in The Flying Dutchman, Philip II in Don Carlos and Fafner in Siegfried, he went to sing on stages abroad. He has sung with among others the Concertgebouw and Sir Colin Davis and at the Teatro Comunale de Firenze as Timur in Turandot. He has appeared as Rocco in a new production of Fidelio at De Vlaamse Opera and as Fasolt at Teatro Real in Madrid. He had his international breakthrough in 1999 when he made his debut at La Scala as Don Fernando in Fidelio, under Riccardo Muti. His North American debut in The Ring at the Opera in Seattle also aroused international attention.
