Sten Byriel (bass) trained at the Royal Academy of Music in Århus and the Opera Academy in Copenhagen. He made his debut as Papageno in Mozart’s The Magic Flute in 1985, and since then has been engaged as a soloist at the Royal Danish Theatre, where he has sung Mozart roles such as Figaro and Dr. Bartolo in The Marriage of Figaro, Leporello and the Commandant in Don Giovanni. He has also sung Henrik in Carl Nielsen’s Masquerade, Colline in Puccini’s La Bohème, Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen, Dulcamara in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, the Grand Inquisitor and the Monk in Verdi’s Don Carlos, Osmin in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Klingsor in Parsifal. He sang as a guest at the Wiener Volksoper as Figaro in 1989-93, and since 1997 has been a guest soloist at the Staatsoper in Berlin.
