A member of the Berlin Philharmonic since 2002, Stefan Schulz is one of the world’s leading bass trombonists. Before joining the Berlin Philharmonic, Schulz was the bass trombonist of the Berlin Staatskapelle from 1993 to 2002 and taught in the orchestra’s academy. As a soloist Stefan Schulz has performed with orchestras such as the Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Staatsorchester Wiesbaden, the Philharmonia Wien and the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. A regular player in the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra from 1996 to 2002, Stefan Schulz also performs in various chamber music groups, including the Soloists of the Berlin Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic Brass Ensemble and the Daniel Schnyder Trio. He also plays as a regular guest with the German Brass Ensemble. His first solo CD, “Berlin Recital”, featuring works by Johannes Brahms, Jan Sandström and Stjepan Šulek, has been released by BIS.
