Born in Estonia in 1969, Sööt took piano lessons for eight years before enrolling in the Villu Veski saxophone class at Tallinn Music Collage. He studied improvisation and arrangement with Reggie Workman and Stjepko Gut, and attended a workshop with renowned Swiss guitarist Christy Doran in 1991. In 1995 he won the Berklee Entering Students Talent Award. He now attends Skurup Folk High School. He has played and toured with two American jazz singers, Datevik Hovanesjan and guitarist Tiit Paulus, and Joel de Luna, with whom he produced the single Good Friends. In 1993 he was invited to record his own compositions with Estonian Radio Big Band.
