Per Carsten, a pupil of the well known classical saxophonist Aage Voss, made his appearance on the Danish Jazz scene in 1964 when he could be heard with the Danish Jazz Group, the Danish Radio Big Band and the Alex Riel-Palle Mikkelborg Quintet. In the 70s he began to compose for the Danish Radio Big band (now the Danish Radio Jazz Orchestra), where he became a regular member in 1975. In 1986 Per Carsten left the Big Band to play with his own smaller groups and to concentrate on composing. In the 90s Per Carsten has hardly ever performed, but he was in the recording studio a couple of times in 1996, and with four outstanding, responsive musicians with whom he has collaborated since 1986, presented music - completely on his own terms. And this should be highly appreciated.
