Jon Gjesme (violin) was born and grew up in Hønefoss, Norway. He has studied in Oslo, Hanover and Minneapolis, as well as in Copenhagen with Milan Vitek. He made his debut as a soloist in 1995 and the same year won the position of leader of the Royal Danish Orchestra. Alongside his orchestral work he has had an extensive solo career, appearing with orchestras like the Oslo Philharmonic, the Norwegian and Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestras, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and the Royal Danish Orchestra in violin concertos by Sibelius, Mendelssohn, Barber, Prokofiev, Mozart, Haydn and Bach. As a chamber musician Jon Gjesme has performed in much of Europe and in the USA. With the Gefion Trio he has recorded Beethoven’s string trios op. 9 on CD. Jon Gjesme has earlier been leader of the Oslo Philharmonic and is still a member of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, and he is now a member of the Diamond Ensemble.
