Johan Reuter (bass-baritone) is one of the most successful Danish opera singers today. Alongside his performances at the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen he regularly sings on international stages like Covent Garden, the Bastille Opera in Paris and Deutsche Oper in Berlin. Johan Reuter trained in Copenhagen at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and the Opera Academy. He began his career in the vocal ensemble Ars Nova Copenhagen. Since 1996 he has been a soloist at the Royal Danish Opera, where he has sung a very wide repertoire from Mozart to Verdi and brand new operas. Among his many leading roles one can see and hear him as Henrik in Carl Nielsen’s opera Maskarade and as Struensee in Bo Holten’s new opera The Visit of the Royal Physician on DVDs from Dacapo. He can also be heard on many CDs, including Poul Ruders’ opera Kafka’s Trial and Vagn Holmboe’s Requiem for Nietzsche. Johan Reuter is much in demand on stages abroad. He has sung Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman in Berlin and Madrid, the title role in The Marriage of Figaro at Deutsche Oper, Mandryka in Strauss’ Arabella at the Vienna State Opera and Wozzeck at Covent Garden. As a concert singer he has appeared at Europe’s leading festivals, including the Salzburg Festival and the Proms, in a repertoire that ranges from Haydn’s The Creation and The Seasons with conductors like Philippe Herreweghe and Marc Minkowski to Mahler’s Eighth Symphony conducted by Valery Gergiev.
