After his opera debut in 1947 Gert Bastian sang in the Danish National Opera in Aarhus in roles such as Leonard in Masquerade, Rocco in Beethoven’s Fidelio, Nick Shadow in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress and Georgio Germont in Verdi’s La Traviata. With his stage talents Bastian was able to continue his career as an actor.
