Eva Hess Thaysen  


Eva Hess Thaysen trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen with Professor Kirsten Buhl-Møller and Professor Uno Ebrelius, making her debut from the soloist class in 1989. Her opera debut was in 1988 at Musikdramatisk Teater , Holstebro, as Simplicius in K.A. Hartmann’s opera of the same name. Since 1991 she has been engaged as a soloist at the Danish National Opera in Aarhus, where she has sung Flower Maiden in Parsifal, Musetta in La Bohème, Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, Cunegonde in Candide, Angèle in The Count of Luxembourg, Fourth Girl in Elektra, Lisa in Land of Smiles and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. Alongside these she has sung at the Aarhus Summer Opera as Nanetta in Falstaff, Lucia in The Rape of Lucrece and Norina in Don Pasquale, while at Det Ny Teater she has sung Adèle in Die Fledermaus and Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow. In 1990 Eva Hess Thaysen sang the Cook in the DR-TV production of Stravinsky’s opera The Nightingale. Eva Hess Thaysen has worked a good deal with contemporary Danish musical drama, for example Don Juan Returns from the Wars by Erik Højgaard and Titanic by Karl Aage Rasmussen, as well as John Frandsen’s Tugt og Utugt i Mellemtiden. Most recently she has sung Carlotta in The Phantom of the Opera at Det Ny Teater and Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes at the Danish National Opera in Aarhus, as well as Frasquita in two concert performances of Carmen in Malmö. Eva Hess Thaysen has recorded several CDs, including songs by Carl Nielsen, and has twice recorded the soprano part in Nielsen’s Third Symphony, Espansiva. In 1988 she was awarded the Hafnia Music Prize.
