Here Paul Hillier features in the role as spokesman for three favourite Dacapo CDs.
Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen: Plateaux
SACD 6.220533
"Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen is one of the most interesting composers
from anywhere at the moment - and this is one of his best works.
Pungent orchestral sounds, brilliant piano playing, and overall a
wonderful yet always strange eloquence at work. There's no-one else
like him, and yet his music is still far too little known. This CD
should help to put that right."
Dietrich Buxtehude: Works for organ Vol. 1-6
CD 8.226002, 8.226008, 8.226023
SACD 6.220514, 6.220520, 6.220530
"Bine Bryndorf's playing gives us both the discipline and the fantasy of Buxtehude - and on one of the loveliest organs I've ever heard, brilliantly recorded sound too. There are 6 volumes now available and I want to get the whole series, but my starting point was volume 2 and the superb opening Praeludium in F."
Svend Nielsen: Butterfly Valley
CD 8.224706
"This is rather a unique piece of music. The title means ‘Butterfly
Valley' - subtitled a Requiem for 12 solo singers - the music delicate
yet strongly woven, and the text a remarkable series of poems by Inger
Christensen. Exquisitely sung by Ars Nova Copenhagen under their former
chief conductor, Tamas Veto. The CD also features the poet reading the
poems and the booklet has colour photos of the butterflies."
