Thomas Dausgaard is well known for his dynamic style and innovative approach to music. He is an enthusiast who first and foremost works seriously, thoroughly and innovatively with the classical masterworks. At the same time he is one of the regular conductors of unceremonious Metro Concerts, where curious listeners crowd in for just under an hour with a large symphony. Big international tours have become a hallmark of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra (DNSO) and Thomas Dausgaard. In recent years the orchestra has performed with Dausgaard in places as different as China, Korea, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Proms in London, the Baltic Festival in Stockholm, Switzerland, Austria and Germany. In 2006 the orchestra had the honour of being ‘orchestra-in-residence’ at the Prague Spring Festival and the Bergen Festival. Dausgaard also functions as a guest conductor of several leading orchestras, including the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and symphony orchestras in Toronto and Houston. As chief conductor of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra he has been on tour to among other places the summer festivals in London (Barbican) and Stresa in Italy, and their recordings of Beethoven and Schumann are accounted among the best. If you would like to hear Thomas Dausgaard and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra at home in front of your speakers, it is worth recommending their Dacapo recording of orchestral works and theatre music by Carl Nielsen, . Last year the international music periodical Gramophone chose the CD as Disc of the Month and as Editor’s choice. The CD, which was nominated for the 2007 Gramophone Award, is also included in the online guide ClassicsToday.com’s 2007 Best of the Year Selection. The recordings of all Rued Langgaard’s symphonies, too, have had excellent reviews from near and far. At ClassicsToday.com the recent release of Langgaard’s has been given top marks and has been selected as Disc of the Month.
