Sebastian Gottschick

Sebastian Gottschick was born 1959 in Düsseldorf. He studied composition, violin, and conducting in Cologne, Berlin, Hamburg, and at the Juilliard School in New York. From 1993 until 1999 he was Artistic Director of the Ensemble Oriol Berlin, and is currently Guest Director of the orchestra. He was Musical Director of the Neue Opernbühne Berlin; in 2000 he leaded their summer production of Händel’s Flavio. He was guest conductor at the Basel Theatre, the Potsdam Schlosstheater, and the Berliner Kammeroper. Recent engagements include the Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart, the Basel Symphony, the Ensemble Phoenix Basel, the Orquestra Comunal de Madrid, and the Ensemble Modern, among others. Next to his activities as a conductor, he appears as a violinist in various chamber ensembles and as a soloist.
