The Odense Symphony Orchestra, one of Denmark’s five major regional orchestras, was founded in 1946, but its roots go back to around 1800. The Orchestra has 75 regular musicians who each year play 35-40 subscription concerts as well as many matinee and school concerts. They also work with opera and theatre productions, CD recordings etc. The Orchestra has a long discography including complete recordings of Carl Nielsen’s and Ib Nørholm’s symphonies, opera suites by Rimsky-Korsakov and music by H.C. Lumbye. Yet another facet of the Odense Symphony Orchestra’s diverse activities is its touring work, which has taken the Orchestra to Spain, Russia, Germany, China, Holland, Austria, Greece and Sweden.
